The MEC Community Engagement Model unites community members in efforts to secure high quality mathematics programs and practices in schools.

The MEC Community Engagement Model brings communities together in support of 21st Century mathematics for every student. Model components provide all stakeholders, including parents, educators, business and community leaders, university faculty and other community members, with the knowledge needed to recognize and support high-quality mathematics programs in schools. In addition, the MEC Model develops mathematics leaders with the capacity to implement and sustain community engagement work in their regions, districts and/or schools.

School districts in several regions of the country that collaborate with MEC over time successfully secure community-wide support for high-quality mathematics program implementation in schools.

External research and evaluation teams have studied the impact of the MEC summer courses, leadership development work, work with administrators, and other project components since the inception of the model. The success of the model has been documented in diverse settings. Virtually all past and current participants, including parents, teachers, administrators, business leaders, university faculty, and other community members, highly value the MEC community engagement work.
