"Since working with MEC, I can make better judgments about how to engage students. The kinds of questioning I now use are greatly improved.  The level of discourse in my class is higher and students are learning more mathematics with deeper understanding."  - Elementary School Teacher

Since I started implementing MEC approaches, students have told me several times that they don’t like math, but they like my math. Elementary School Teacher

“My work with MEC has completely transformed the way I approach and teach math. MEC courses model how to differentiate instruction for students, as well as making math more inquiry based.”  - 6th Grade Teacher

Mission

MEC’s mission is to work in concert with educational communities in support of quality mathematics in schools.

We believe that only with knowledgeable communities — including teachers, administrators, parents and the public-at-large — will we, as a nation, secure powerful and relevant mathematics programs in our schools.

Therefore, the Mathematics Education Collaborative (MEC), a Washington-based non-profit, works in partnership with school districts and mathematics leaders to secure a well-informed public committed to making sound decisions about mathematics education in local schools, and committed to improving mathematics education for every student and teacher.

To accomplish our mission, MEC offers a series of community math nights and courses for teachers, administrators, and the public-at-large. The components of the MEC community engagement model provide all the necessary elements needed to establish a common base of dialogue, knowledge and understanding to achieve high quality mathematics in K-12 schools.
