Only with an informed public will we secure the kinds of high quality mathematics programs that are urgently needed in schools.  If we, as a nation, are to compete successfully in this global climate, then focused, immediate and purposeful efforts must be made to secure a more knowledgeable public.  MEC works in partnership with school districts and mathematics initiatives to secure a well-informed public that is prepared to make sound decisions about mathematics education in K-12 schools. The ultimate goal is for every student to reach her or his potential.   

To accomplish this goal, MEC provides sustained opportunities for teachers, parents, administrators and others to learn mathematics in ways that model optimal classroom learning and assessment practices. MEC brings communities together in pursuit of and support for high quality mathematics in schools. MEC develops education resource materials to support the efforts of those working to improve mathematics education.

Since 1999, MEC’s community-engagement work has taken place in over 40 school districts in over 14 states.  School districts that have engaged with MEC over time in several regions of the country have successfully secured community-wide support for the implementation of innovative mathematics programs in their schools.
