Mathematics Matters - Host MEC Content Courses

"What was important to me was learning fun ways to interact as a family with math."  - Parent, MEC Math Night

“MEC has been a valuable resource for bringing together all the key components that are involved in the academic success of students. MEC’s vision is to create a community learning team to help ensure a richer understanding of mathematics education in the K-12 school system.”  - Middle School Teacher

“Everyone was engaged at our Math Night. Parents near me were saying that they didn’t realize there were so many ways to solve a problem. It was wonderful to see so many parents involved and wanting to understand how to help their child with math.”  - K12 Teacher on Special Assignment

“MEC courses have impacted my teaching because I now have a much deeper understanding of the mathematics that I teach.” - High School Teacher

Ongoing Research and Evaluation of Community Engagement Model

Post-session data is collected and analyzed at all MEC Community Math Nights.  External research and evaluation teams have studied the impact of the MEC summer courses, leadership development work, work with administrators, and other project components since the inception of the model.  The success of the model has been documented in diverse settings.  Virtually all past and current participants, including parents, teachers, administrators, business leaders, university faculty, and other community members, highly value the MEC community engagement work. Ongoing research and evaluation informs MEC design, implementation and decision-making processes while guiding project review and collaborative planning.
