Where learning mathematics and language acquisition come together.


Meet the demand of WIDA content area language development in mathematics with Number Talks.

In order to more fully realize the potential of Number Talks, MEC convened* a team of experts in Number Talks, professional learning, teaching, and language acquisition. The goal of this group was to enhance Number Talks to fully include multilingual learners. As a result of this collaboration, we are excited to now offer a professional learning opportunity that supports teachers of multilingual students. In this workshop, teachers will learn how to use Number Talks to elevate the voices of emergent bilinguals, and other marginalized voices, into the center of their mathematics classrooms. 

Now we’re looking for partners (such as schools or districts) who would like to offer this professional learning. Our events are customized and can include (but are not limited to):

  • On-site and online institutes to prepare teachers to facilitate Number Talks for content-area language acquisition.
  • Studio days to deepen teacher understanding as well as energize implementation.
  • On-site modeling, co-facilitation and classroom coaching.
  • Local leadership development for sustained implementation.
